As I start my Hypnotherapy practice, I have been reading and working through, “Book Yourself Solid: The Fastest, Easiest, and Most Reliable System for Getting More Clients Than You Can Handle Even If You Hate Marketing and Selling” by Michael Port. Trust me when it comes to marketing, I need all the help I can get.
He begins the book by asking the question, “Do you have your own red velvet rope policy that allows in only the most ideal clients, the ones who energize and inspire you?” He continues by giving two reasons why every service practitioner needs a red velvet rope policy. The first is because when you work with your ideal client, the clients you love to work with, you will love your work and do your best. The second is “because you are your clients. They are an expression and an extension of you.” (p.3)
So who are my ideal clients?
My first and priority answer is:
Those who are not only interested in changing their life but are committed to change.
Change is difficult and our brains are wired to be constantly scanning for threats. Changing your life is threatening to your current life. You have the life you have because of your past events, beliefs about yourself, and emotions. Your brain is resisting all changes, even the positive changes. So you should expect unconscious resistance.
But I have two questions for you.
- Are you in enough pain (physical, psychological or existential) that overcoming your subconscious resistance is worth committing to making positive changes in your life?
- Are you willing to take the first several action steps? For my clients, that means contacting me, making an appointment, and then showing up. Showing up and participating in your sessions and action steps outside of my office is critical for your success.
Who is your ideal Hypnotherapist?
The practitioner that is not only competent and highly trained but the one who has high expectations for positive change in your life. I was taught to see every client as already healed. When you walk into my office, no matter what is stopping you from reaching your goals, I can visualize your success. Whether you have a medical issue you want to work on or another type of life issue, I know that you can succeed. I am committed to your success.
